Colombia's first eco-friendly school aims to protect environment and combat climate change

MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA - NOVEMBER 6: El Rincon school, the first eco-friendly and sustainable public school of Colombia, aims to protect the environment and combat climate change. The school was inaugurated in Medellin city this year and is the fourth of these characteristics in Latin America, which is part of the network of Sustainable Public Schools that have already been built in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. “Basically, the basic principles of sustainability are handled, what does it consist of? The first is in clean energy, it is to instill in the community through children the awareness of working with clean energy, with solar panels, wind energy, that type of energy that does not pollute the environment,” said Juan Diego Parra, teacher in the school. This work, which is part of one of the six headquarters of the San Jeronimo Rural Agricultural Educational Institution, seeks to impact the educational and community spheres by promoting the protection of the environment, the rational use of resources, the mitigation of climate change and have as its axis the sustainability of human relations. “We also work from the beginning of the proper use of recyclable elements, here we have a sample of how these elements can be used such as tires, cans, glass bottles mainly in construction, for example the bathroom is built with cans and bottles, we also have here a wall built with tires, that is the other principle of the use of these materials,” Parra added.
