Underwater footage. School of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) moving up a tributary of the Shibetsu River. The chum salmon is a species of the Salmonidae (salmon) family in the order Salmoniformes. It is anadromous; that is, the fish live out at sea and migrate up rivers in order to spawn. The hatched young move downstream into the sea. The chum salmon grow to maturity as they migrate extensively across the Northern Pacific, but return to their mother rivers (the rivers in which they were hatched) during spawning season.
