Asbury Park First To Allow Same-Sex Marriage In New Jersey
ASBURY PARK, NJ - MARCH 9: Barbara Vandenberge (R) and her partner Lorna Becker, both of Southside Florist in Asbury Park, deliver two dozen of the ten dozen roses that supporters sent to Deputy City Clerk D. Kiki Tomek, who last week began accepting marriage licenses for same-sex couples March 9, 2004 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Asbury Park became the first city in New Jersey to allow a same sex marriage when Ric Best and Louis Navarrete were married yesterday. State Attorney General Peter C. Harvey said that the marriage is invalid and that he would go to court to block any more marriage licenses being issued to same-sex couples. New Jersey is one of 12 states that that do not have laws defining marriage as limited to a man and a woman. (Photo by Angela Jimenez/Getty Images)
