TDF-1964-ACCIDENT
Divers look for survivors after a truck driven by a gendarme missed a curve and crashed into the crowd before plunging into a canal on July 11, 1964 in Port-de-Couze, a few minutes before the arrival of the riders of the Tour de France during the 19th stage between Bordeaux and Brive. According to witnesses, the truck which was carrying kerosene to refill helicopters, came in too fast and braked too late killing nine people instantly and injuring dozens of others in the worst tragedy ever recorded on the Tour de France. Fifteen minutes later, the peloton arrived and stopped to pay respect to the victims before continuing the race. (Photo by - / AFP) (Photo by -/AFP via Getty Images)
