Crew of U.S.S. Lexington Abandoning Ship

The crew of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington abandons ship as ordered by their captain during the Battle of the Coral Sea. A destroyer obscured by smoke from the burning carrier stands by to pick up the wounded, while most of the men leave the carrier by sliding down ropes into small transport boats.
