This photomicrograph shows peripheral nuclei and the endomysium (connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscle fibers). Although this is not an electronmicrograph (image taken with the electron microscope), it shows quite a bit of detail--the A bands (dark red vertical structures forming a striation), the lighter I bands with Z lines (thin line in the middle of the I band). These structural arrangements form the striations. The myofibrils are also evident and run lengthwise within the muscle fiber.
