This area was once dominated by Salford Docks, one of the UK's largest dock systems. Opened in 1894 by Queen Victoria. The docks were closed in 1982. In 1985 an urban regeneration plan was unveiled. The BBC chose this site for the relocation of 5 of it's London based departments. Work began in 2007 and it has since become a true digital hub.Within the area are The Lowry Arts Center and Imperial War Museum, helping to bring in millions of tourists each year.
