Department of Immigration officials are saying today that they've taken all the necessary measures to keep a lid on the outbreak of typhoid on Christmas Island. So far, two male asylum seekers who arrived to the country on separate boats have tested positive to typhoid. One was transferred for medical treatment to the mainland, the other is being treated on the island. So far in 2012 the total number of asylum-seekers to reach Australian waters has surpassed 970, triple the amount from last year as calm seas make the journey faster. As the issue continues Australian's government is still asking for cooperation with a Malaysian plan as a part of a offshore processing regime. (Photo by Paula Bronstein/Getty Images)
