It's an interesting thing to be out on the river and to be walking in ruts from heavy tires. It's almost surreal how hard ice can become. The Ottawa River is very broad, and yet when the logging industry was strong here logging trucks used to drive ACROSS the river from Ontario to Quebec. In the more northern parts of Canada there are communities that can only be accessed by plane in the milder months but are accessed by ice highways in the winter. Some of those trucks travel for many hours on roads that are nothing more than groomed ice. This beautiful landscape image reveals that reality.
