Dr. Ernest L. Wynder with a Rabbit

(Original Caption) Cigarette Tar Gives Rabbit Cancer. New York, New York: Dr. Ernest L. Wynder, of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, displays cancers on the ear and neck of a rabbit which has been "painted" with tars condensed from cigaret smoke. Heretofore only the mouse has consistently responded with cancer to cigaret smoke tars "painted" directly on its skin. The evidence was produced after experimentations with 65 rabbits over the entire life span of the animals--four to six years. The experiments were conducted by Dr. Wynder, the late Dr. Evarts A. Graham, and Adele B. Croninger, both of Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.
