General Election 2010: Conservative: David Cameron speech at Coca Cola Enterprises; ENGLAND: West Yorkshire: Wakefield;INTDavid Cameron (Leader of the Conservative party) interview SOT - Thank you for giving me opportunity to answer some of your questions - in this election there are two huge questions - how do we deal with our enormous deficit an debt on the one hand and how do we get economy growing on the other - we in Conservative party say you've got to make an early start / no good putting off these decisions - all know from our own lives if you leave debts too long it only gets worse - out of every 4 pounds the govt spends they are borrowing one of those pounds - we say get on with it, roll up sleeves, start to make savings and accept there will have to be difficult deisions - we will have to have freeze on public sector pay... for a year- will have to ask people to retire a year later from 2016 - difficult decision - child trust fund is good benefit but better off families won't get that in future, will reserve it for people on lower incomes - we will act early / if we don't act early then will have national insurance increase, jobs tax, coming in 2011- should make it easy to take on employees - NI will mean fewer jobs less growth in economy- one of things that got us into this mess has been behaviour of banks - when it comes to the banks we need big changes- got to get banks lending to businesses again / will have big govt guarantees to get the money out of the banks and into the small businesses where it belongs - will also put levy on the banks / they should pay back money we had to give them / we will put that in place in first year of new govt - put Bank of England back in charge of regulating the banks - that's the body that's got the respect to make banks behave properly - when the banks, that we own, go back into private sector, want them to be more competitive so will break up some banks, make sure they're com...
