Gym in Nis, Serbia aims to remove 'barriers' for disabled
NIS, SERBIA- NOVEMBER 12: A gym in the city of Nis in the southern Serbia, aims to remove barriers by serving disabled people with a saloon available for all citizens with wheelchairs and physical disabilities.Disabled people can easily come and exercise regularly in the single storey gym, which has no stairs.“This is my first experience at the gym. I have been actively exercising all my life as I am disabled and suffer from cerebral palsy. It is important for me not to give up exercising because I see it as a kind of recreation,” said Vuk Jovanovic, who is suffering from cerebral palsy.Another disabled person Andjela Djokic, who is one of the regulars of the saloon, said that exercising helped her to move with her crutches easily.“I can now do many things that I couldn't do at home before. This is thanks to Milica Kostic, with whom I am proud of to be trained. We work together, strive and overcome 'boundaries’,” she added.Seeing motived disabled people increases motivation of those who do not have any disability, according to the owner of the gym Ivan Popovic.“When people see that many of the disabled people don't miss their trainings and come in full of energy, people without disabilities are also motivated to come to workouts more and forget about the problems they thought were big,” said he.He also stressed that regardless of gender, age or physical condition, exercising is necessary for everyone.
