Novelist Jilly Cooper and husband, publisher Leo (Leonard), discuss acquaintances in Putney's responses to purportedly becoming material to be written about in Jilly's novels. Leo says, 'I think a climate of unease was created by the fact that people felt that sometimes they couldn't move without Jilly writing about what they were going to do... It's not a question of what you were doing, it's a question of what they were thinking'. Jilly, after objecting to Leo's first statement, says, 'I think people are crosser if you don't write about them, this is the thing. They think there must be something wrong with them.'
