Cat making chicken noises to be put up for adoption after treatment in Türkiye

ESKISEHIR, TÜRKİYE - SEPTEMBER 19, 2024: Treatment began on Thursday (Sept. 19) for a kitten who makes chicken-like sounds due to esophageal dilation in Eskisehir, northwestern Türkiye. Oznur Ulucam, who noticed that a stray cat was unable to eat and was vomiting, brought the animal to veterinarian Evren Fatih Mumcu’s clinic. After Mumcu conducted the necessary examinations, it was determined that the 600-gram kitten had an enlarged esophagus, which caused it to make chicken-like sounds. The kitten, named “Kupa,” has been placed on a special feeding program, and medical treatment has begun. The treatment is ongoing at the clinic. Mumcu emphasized the need to restore the animal to health with the right treatment and said: 'We are feeding him in an upright position to ensure that the food we give him goes directly to the stomach. It's crucial to prevent the swollen esophagus from filling with food and to allow the food to pass directly into the stomach. This way, the kitten doesn't vomit. The food moves on without waiting in the esophagus, and thanks to the medication we're using, the esophagus, which hasn’t further enlarged, begins to shrink. We're also administering an additional vaccine to boost his immunity. We are waiting for the muscle groups in the esophagus to heal. In time, his voice will improve as well, but for us, the main priority right now is to prevent vomiting.' Mumcu mentioned that the treatment would last at least 15 days, after which the kitten would be put up for adoption. Oznur Ulucam explained that she had saved the kitten from being hit by a car in the street near her home. She added that they took care of the kitten at home for a few days and said, 'When he started eating less and making those sounds, we brought him to the clinic.
