Footage and imagery captured by local photographer Craig Shimala shows numerous spectacular strikes. His footage https://twitter.com/cshimala/status/1762670871414469041 included the eye-catching sight of a lightning bolt striking the top of the former John Hancock Center, now known as 875 North Michigan Avenue. Imagery from Shimala also features incredible stills of lightning strikes across the city skyline, as well as timelapse footage, additional videos as the storm passed, and Shimala himself setting up his camera to grab the perfect shots. Local media https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/02/27/chicago-cook-county-under-severe-thunderstorm-tornado-warning/ reported that the storm arrived on "a day of temperatures so warm they nearly broke city weather records". Earlier in the afternoon, temperatures reached 74 degrees at the city's O'Hare International Airport. (Footage by Craig Shimala/Storyful via Getty Images UGC)
