Afghan children receive poliovirus drops in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD , PAKISTAN, JANUARY, 27: A Pakistani health worker marks a house of Afghan refugees following administering the poliovirus drops to their children at Afghan refugees settlement in the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan, on January 27, 2022. Pakistani authorities have launched this year's first nationwide anti-polio campaign despite facing a sudden surge of coronavirus cases in an effort aimed at eradicating the crippling children's disease. Pakistan anti-polio drives have been running since 1994, with up to 260,000 vaccinators staging regular waves of regional inoculation campaigns. The last infection of the wild poliovirus was recorded on January 27, 2021, according to officials, and Friday marks the first time in Pakistan's history that a year has passed with no new cases.
