Chichester A Bell, American sound engineer, late 19th century.
UNITED STATES - MAY 20: The engineer Chichester A Bell was a cousin of the telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). In 1880 the French government awarded Alexander Graham Bell the Volta Prize of 50,000 francs for the invention of the telephone. Together with his cousin Chichester A Bell and Charles Sumner Tainter (1854-1940), he founded Volta Associates. Chichester A Bell and Sumner Tainter improved the phonograph by adding a flexible recording stylus and wax-coated cardboard cylinder, and patented their version in 1886. They exhibited their new machine, the Graphophone, in Washington, DC in 1889. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
