Grevy's Zebra mating - 4K 影片檔

Adapted to the arid ecosystem of northern Kenya and classified as endangered, Grevy’s zebras have a social structure that differs from other zebra species. Rather than forming permanent family groups, adult males occupy strategic areas where water and food resources are concentrated, while females move between these areas. For this reason, the close contact seen in such images is more likely to indicate courtship and a mating attempt between a male and a female than a dominance struggle between two males. In Grevy’s zebras, reproductive behavior does not begin with a single direct act of mating. The male first approaches the female and assesses her receptiveness through scent and body language. Close contact then increases, and the female’s response is tested through contact involving the head, neck, and body. If the female is not receptive, she may turn away, try to move off, or show defensive reactions to protect her rear. The male, however, may continue his approach and attempt to mount when the opportunity arises. For this reason, movements that may look harsh, confused, or even combative from the outside can actually reflect a short and tense stage between courtship and rejection.Such scenes can be understood as a natural part of Grevy’s zebra reproductive behavior, including mate selection, courtship, the female’s acceptance or rejection, and the male’s persistent approach.
