NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 3: Kelsie Whitmore #3 of the Staten Island Ferryhawks is taken out of the game in the sixth inning and greeted by her teammates after hitting a single in the fourth inning against Chris Cepeda #34 of the Long Island Ducks at Richmond County Bank Ball Park on September 3, 2022 in the Staten Island Borough of New York, New York. She is the first woman to record a hit in association with Major League Baseball. Whitmore was the first woman to appear in the starting lineup in an Atlantic League game. Her debut in the Atlantic League was a pinch runner on April 22, and became the first woman to start an Atlantic League game on May 1, playing as a left fielder.
