A visitor comes face to face with bas-reliefs of apsaras at the top terrace of Angkor Wat, Cambodia. These asparas, or celestial dancers, are most likely modelled on the entourage of dancers serving the ancient kings of Angkor. There are over 1700 of these apsara bas-reliefs at Angkor Wat. Showing off elaborate hairstyles and jewellery, the apsaras are the epitome of Khmer chic and icons of Khmer beauty standards.
