Mikhail Gorbachev interviewed by Jon Snow; Interview main camera part 8 of 10ENGLAND: London:INTMikhail Gorbachev (Soviet Leader) interview SOT (voice of interpreter heard inbackground - English and Russian on separate audio tracks).Q - G7 meeting in London - the decisions you have taken will take effect some time in the future, but given the situation in USSR now, is there need for urgent support?A - Even before this meeting we were working together with those countries, international cooperation and solidarity in perestroika, but we will not be saved by loans and credit, we need to bear the main burden, our GNP is worth 2 trillion rubles, the press were speculating whether the West would give loans of 10-20 billion rubles, perspective, it is for us to complete perestroika, but can do it faster and with less risk with international coordination, will benefit not just USSR but also our partners, critical point in our reform, our success can be achieved more rapidly through cooperation with the west, e.g. convertibility of the ruble would benefit both the USSR and the west, people need dollars in the USSR, but also will benefit western businesses. We will create new consumer market, fusion of goods will help to reorient our industries
