A multi-vehicle crash resulted in the https://x.com/IDOTDistrict7/status/1876039133233381475 closure of all lanes on a southern Illinois highway on Sunday, January 5, as the https://x.com/NWSLincolnIL/status/1875845294480621943 National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for the region and https://x.com/NWSLincolnIL/status/1875903751669928225 cautioned of slick road conditions. The owner of https://www.facebook.com/yourmomspizza Midwest Towing and Auto Sales, LLC captured this video on Interstate 70 showing semi-trucks scattered across the highway and on the median. The owner of the towing company described the scene as the "worst" he's ever been to. According to https://www.wcia.com/cumberland-county/multi-vehicle-crash-closes-i-70-eastbound-in-cumberland-co/ local news reports , all lanes were reopened on the interstate in the early hours of Monday morning after all vehicles that could be removed were towed away.
