Northern Ireland devolution process: press conference with leaders; Martin McGuinness MP MLA (Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland) press conference SOT- I am very pleased that we have concluded this important agreement with the DUP and I want to take this opportunity to thank the Taoiseach and the British Prime Minister and their Ministers and all their officials for the spirit of co-operation that existed during these negotiations over the course of the last ten days or so. I want to pay tribute to all of the political parties and all of their negotiating teams and in particular the Sinn Fein negotiating team and our party leader, Gerry Adams.- Our negotiating team has remained intact for almost 20 years and I think that is a tribute to them that they have managed to continue to be involved in agreements that will make life better for the people that we care about.- As everybody knows, this has been a difficult negotiation. At one stage I proposed to Peter, and I thought he had agreed, that he would wear a green tie today and I would wear an orange one, but as you can see we have got off to a bad start! I knew you would chicken out!- But I think it is hardly a surprise to people that it has been a difficult negotiation given the reality that I am an Irish republican and others here have a completely different view. I believe in a United Ireland and they want to maintain the union with England. This should not mean that we are incapable of respecting one another, of treating one another as equals and proceeding on the basis of partnership, respect, fairness and equality.- I and my Sinn Fein colleagues are utterly determined to continue to work in good faith and with a good heart with our unionists colleagues and I want to work in harmony with Peter for the good of our entire community.
