Aerial view of Pacentro, located in the heart of the province of L’Aquila, in Abruzzo, a few kilometers from Sulmona.  Pacentro, a medieval village with a preserved historic center, has a population of about 1,100 inhabitants and is located at almost 700 meters (about 2296 feet) above sea level in the Majella National Park. The village features the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Castle of Pacentro, one of the best-preserved fortifications in Abruzzo, dating back to the 11th century and subsequently expanded and renovated over the centuries.
