Senator McConnell notes glaring asymmetry between Democrat, Republican Supreme Court nominees as Barrett considered
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says just prior to a confirmation vote on the nomination of Seventh Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett that Democrats had hauled out the very same tactics against Republican nominees to the court for 50 years, some more intense but the doomsday productions about the outcome of nominating extremists like John Paul Stevens or David Souter everybody knew nominations like Robert Bork, Thomas Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Barrett were certain to whip up national frenzies, while nominations like Ginsberg, Stephen Breyer, Sonya Sotomayor and Elena Kagan just calm events by comparison, the glaring asymmetry predating recent disputes over a fundamental disagreement of the role of the judge in the Republic.
