Low Altitude Rainbow Forms Over Stormy Oklahoma
A storm chaser driving around https://x.com/NWSNorman/status/1923954701722177712 thunderstorm-warned Oklahoma momentarily paused on May 17, as a low altitude rainbow caught his attention outside the town of Lindsay. Stunning visuals by Chad Casey show the rainbow appearing to barely raising above ground, and the stormy sky painting a very faint second arc. Casey told Storyful that he wasn 't sure he 'd ever seen a rainbow "so close to the ground." According to https://www.newscientist.com/lastword/mg25133452-700-why-is-this-strange-rainbow-at-the-wrong-height/ Newscientist.com , the rainbow 's apex will stand 42 degrees above the horizon only when the sun is sitting on the opposite horizon, at sunrise or sunset. When the sun is higher in the sky, the rainbow will be correspondingly lower. (Footage by Chad Casey/Storyful via Getty Images UGC)
