Cable Car Line In Volcanic Hakone Back In Service Despite The Sulphur
The Hakone Ropeway cable car line resumed partial service on April 23, 2016 in Hakone , Japan , nearly a year after operations were suspended because of a rise in volcanic activity in the popular tourist area of Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. The reopened section transports passengers from Ubako Station to Owakudani Station on an elevation of 1,044 meters. Passengers, however, are not allowed to step outside of Owakudani Station because of continuing concerns about concentrations of sulfur dioxide in the area known for its hot spring pools.
