This image was taken underwater, whilst scuba diving in Thailand. The location is Viking Bay, Phi Phi Islands. A concrete block structure has been deliberately constructed underwater to form an artificial coral reef. This is in a conservation effort to combat the global environmental damage caused by coral bleaching. Over time, corals will grow on this structure in turn attracting new marine life. Coral bleaching is one of the biggest threats to the underwater ecosystems of our time. It is caused by the sea temperature rising, mainly caused by global warming, causing the coral to expel its living algae and die.
