Attendants processing bone and ash fragments following a crematorium procedure 插畫檔

This historical engraving captures a solemn scene where uniform-clad staff handle human remains inside a specialized industrial facility. Dating from the late nineteenth century, the image depicts workers using tools to collect and clean bone fragments and ash from a long metal sliding tray mounted on narrow iron rails, which has just been pulled out of a furnace chamber. The stark indoor setting reflects the early modernization of sanitary and funerary practices during the industrial era, providing a rare glimpse into the logistical and technological management of municipal services. This documentary illustration represents the pioneering establishment of systematic urban funerary processes developed and utilized in France.
