Fanciful book vignette displaying a column of oversized mosquitoes blowing long trumpets ahead of a distant mouse army 插畫檔

This nineteenth-century engraving serves as a humorous narrative panel for an allegorical fable or mock-heroic children's poem published in the United Kingdom. The horizontal composition features a precise line drawing of six large, anthropomorphic mosquitoes marching in a single file line from left to right, each holding and blowing a slender horn or trumpet instrument to act as a military herald. In the far background on the right, a tiny regiment of mice wearing round helmets and carrying shields is visible retreating or advancing over a grassy knoll beneath some small, stylized shrubs. The whimsical sketch relies on clean, high-contrast contours, delicate wing patterns, and minimal stippled shading along the ground plane to create a light, surreal atmosphere typical of late Victorian literary fantasy.
