Horned devil spying on a sleeping monk inside a stone chamber 插畫檔

This satirical nineteenth-century engraving shows an elderly, bearded monk sleeping soundly on a basic wooden bench inside a rustic stone cell. The character is deeply asleep with his hands clasped, oblivious to an open book, a pair of eyeglasses, and a bowl resting on the floor in front of him. Next to his makeshift bed stands a small stool and a large ceramic storage jar clearly labeled with the word "OLIVES," while a mischievous, horned devil figure leers through a stone window opening directly above the sleeper, illustrating classic themes of temptation and spiritual vulnerability popular in France.
