Illustration of an inferior view of the maxilla. The horseshoe-shaped alveolar process firmly accommodates the incisors, canines, premolars and molars. The palatine processes extend horizontally medially and fuse at the midline to form the majority of the hard palate, separating the oral and nasal cavities. The frontal processes extend superiorly on both sides to participate in the formation of the medial wall of the orbit, while the zygomatic processes extend laterally to contribute to the zygomatic arch, illustrating the anatomy of the roof of the oral cavity
