Characteristics: They are tiny, wingless hexapods typically measuring about \(1.5\text{\ mm}\) in length.  Unique Feature: They possess a specialized abdominal structure called a "furca," or jumping organ, which allows them to catapult themselves several inches into the air.  Habitat & Diet: Springtails are primarily found in soil, leaf litter, and moist environments, where they feed on fungi, bacteria, and decaying organic matter.  Harmless Nature: Despite the nickname "snow flea," they are not true fleas, do not bite humans or pets, and are harmless.
