Colorado Sponsors Job Fair As Unemployment Claims Hit 7-Year High

DENVER - SEPTEMBER 25: Hundreds of people wait to check out employment opportunities at a job fair sponsored by the Colorado state government September 25, 2008 in Denver, Colorado. The U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday that new claims for unemployment benefits jumped last week to their highest level in seven years due to the slowing economy and the impact of hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Colorado, a key swing state in November's presidential election, has seen its unemployment rate jump in the last year due to layoffs and outsourcing of jobs overseas, according to state labor department officials.
