Barbed Wire Protecting Property 照片檔
Chicago, Illinois, USA. Close up of modern barbed wire strung near railroad and warehouse facilities on Chicago's near south side. Barbed wire was first invented in DeKalb, Illinois, a city located about 60 miles west of Chicago. According to the US National Park Service and other historical sources, Michael Kelly had invented the basic design for barbed wire in 1868. Then, in 1874, Joseph Glidden, a farmer from DeKalb, Illinois, made improvements to Kelly's invention, locking a simple wire barb into a double-strand wire, for which he received a patent from the United States government. Its initial uses were purely agricultural. Prior to that cattle were able to roam free on ranges without fencing restrictions.
