Feeding Down Below 照片檔

Whale shark feeding on plankton below a floating fishing platform in Cenderawasih Bay. Local Indonesian fishermen live on floating fishing platforms, called bagans, for months at a time. There are thought to be 30-40 resident whale sharks in the Cenderawasih Bay area which feed by sucking small fish, plankton and other nutrients caught in the fishing nets that hang from the bagans. The fishing nets are down during the night and brought up in the morning, and at times also catch whale sharks which then are usually released.
