Hovering Ruby Throated Hummingbird 照片檔

Ruby throated hummingbirds are the most common type of hummingbird in the eastern portion of the United States. They winter in Central America and migrate north in the summer to breed in eastern North America. These small birds are agile and graceful fliers. Their rapid wing beats allow them to hover in place while feeding and to dart quickly. They are attracted to red and orange flowers with long tapered openings which allows them to reach in with their beaks and to extend their tongues to reach the nectar.
