Hunting for meat from wild animals is a popular pastime for males of all ages in all regional areas throughout Melanesia. The hunter's main weapon is a bow and arrows, with arrowheads selected on the basis of the target prey whether a bird, a wild pig, possums, tree kangaroos or lizards. Most hunters carry a large machete-like bush-knife and are accompanied by hunting dogs which obediently follow their master through rough jungle terrain and running creeks.
