MITOSIS or Cell Division in a Plant--TELOPHASE, Onion (Allium) Root Tip, 500X. The Chromosomes have migrated to the poles and following this a nucleus with nuclear membrane will form. The Cell Plate, spindle and spindle fibers are visible. Stains used: Hematoxylin (stains chromosomes), Feulgen (stains the cytoplasm and cell wall reddish-purple). The onion root tip is an excellent place to find cells in different phases of mitosis since it is apart of the plant (apical meristem) that has a very high multiplication of cells by cell division.
