Light micrograph of a tonsillar crypt. Tonsils contain crypts, or crevices or infoldings of the surface, such as the 'v'-shaped crypt seen in this image. The crypts often contain inflammation, debris, and sometimes bacterial organisms. There are squamous cells (pink) lining the crypt. Underneath the crypt is lymphoid tissue consisting of innumerable lymphocytes (tiny blue dots), many of which mix into the squamous epithelial cells of the surface. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10cm
